Xiaomi's 100W Super Charge Turbo tech can apparently top up a 4,000mAh battery phone in little over 15 minutes

Fast phones are good, fast-charging phones are even better - so it seems. Although the jury is still out on whether insane fast-charging tech can have adverse effects on the longevity of Li-ion batteries inside most portable mobile devices, brands like Oppo and Huawei believe - it's all good. Both the brands are in some sort of race to figure out the fastest solution - while Oppo has its 50W Super VOOC, Huawei has 55W SuperCharge to its name. And now Xiaomi is also joining the bandwagon with an even crazier 100W Super Charge Turbo tech.

Xiaomi's 100W Super Charge Turbo tech can apparently top up a 4,000mAh battery phone in little over 15 minutes (in 17 minutes to be precise). For some perspective, Oppo’s 50W (10V/5A) Super VOOC Charging can charge a 3700mAh battery phone to up to 65 per cent in 17 minutes - the tech is already shipping inside a phone called the Oppo R17 Pro. Also, Huawei's 55W SuperCharge is claimed to charge 85 per cent of the Mate X's 4,500mAh battery in 30 minutes - the Mate X isn't available for buying yet.

But coming to Xiaomi's Super Charge Turbo, the company's president Lin Bin has taken to China's social media website Weibo to show off the new tech - comparing its charging speed with Oppo's and quite evidently, their solution beats the rival's by a substantial margin. Which is expected since it is 100W fast charging, after all - the fastest in the industry at this point of time. But we may have to wait longer to see it in action since Xiaomi isn't telling if the tech is ready for prime-time just yet. Also, we do not know if Xiaomi is actually planning to mass-market it anytime soon, or if it would be just another prototype showcase for hype.

Xiaomi has been known to rely on Qualcomm's Quick Charge tech and it isn't clear if Super Charge Turbo tech is some sort of extension to that - or whether Xiaomi is doing something entirely different. Xiaomi's current-generation flagship phone Mi 9 uses Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 to achieve 27W fast charging (also, it supports 20W fast wireless charging) - 100W Super Charge Turbo tech is clearly miles ahead in terms of pure numbers. It would be interesting to see what Xiaomi plans to do with it in the days to come.
